Reynolds' singles run ends at Wimbledon

June 27, 2008

Former Vanderbilt men's tennis player Bobby Reynolds had his impressive run through the singles bracket at Wimbledon come to an end on Friday when he lost in the third round.

Reynolds, who was the only American male to advance to the third round, fell to No. 31 Feliciano Lopez of Spain, 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Had Reynolds won he would have advanced to the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam event for the first time in his career.

Despite the loss, Reynolds' strong performance in the tournament should provide a major spike in his ranking, which was No. 102 at the start of Wimbledon.

Reynolds' performance in the tournament matched his best showing in a Grand Slam. He also advanced to the third round in the 2005 Australian Open.

Prior to running into Lopez, Reynolds defeated Filippo Volandri (Italy) in the first round, and Canada's Frank Dancevic in the second round.
