NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Daniel Valent of the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team has been selected to compete in the NCAA Singles Tournament, hosted by the University of Georgia, May 24-26.
A native of Zurich, Switzerland, Valent is slated to make his second consecutive appearance in the NCAA singles tournament.
Boasting a 12-11 (5-7) record at the No. 1 spot in the Vanderbilt lineup, Valent has faced some of the toughest competitors in the nation in preparation for the final event of the year. Throughout his junior season, Valent earned seven Oracle/ITA ranked wins including a victory over Kentucky’s then-No. 14 Will Bushamuka and two wins against No. 27 Mazen Osmama.
Last season, the Commodore fell to Florida State’s 11th-ranked Benjamin Lock in the first round, and looks to improve off his debut performance.
“I am super excited for this tournament,” said Valent. “Last year was my first time competing, and I didn’t do so well. But this year I know more of what to expect and I plan on working as hard as I can to be in the best shape possible. I plan on taking a couple of days off before getting back into preparation with practices next week.”
