NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- The Vanderbilt men's tennis team will travel to Gainesville, Fla. and Columbia, S.C. this weekend to face conference opponents Florida and South Carolina.
The Commodores (8-10, 2-6) dropped two contests last weekend to Tennessee and Georgia in Nashville.
The match times are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday and noon on Sunday.
No. 18 Florida is 9-5 overall and 4-3 in the SEC, with a recent loss to Alabama. The Gators are currently fifth in SEC winning percentage and third overall in the SEC East.
Current Vanderbilt Head Coach Ian Duvenhage served as Florida Head Coach for 13 seasons, spanning from 1989-2001. In 1988, the year before Duvenhage was hired, the Gators posted a dismal 3-20 overall record. By 1994 the Gators were 19-7 with an SEC Championship. In 2000, the Gators finished the season with a No. 2 national rank, their highest ranking during Duvenhage's tenure.
Scouting South Carolina
The Gamecocks (11-9, 2-6) are tied with Kentucky and Vanderbilt for fourth in the SEC East. South Carolina recently fell to Auburn and Alabama on the road.
Gamecock Head Coach Kent Demars is in his 23 season with South Carolina. Under his direction the squad has finished as high as No. 3 nationally, but is currently ranked 53rd.
