A 4-3 win over the No. 33 South Carolina Gamecocks helped boost the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team from the No. 49th ranked team to the No. 36 spot on the ITA’s list.
The boost is thanks in part to senior Charlie Jones and freshmen Gonzales Austin, Jeff Offerdahl, and Joe Dorn, who won all their singles matches to overcome a 1-0 deficit after doubles to defeat South Carolina. Austin clinched the match for Vanderbilt.
Jones’ performances in the No. 1 spot over the weekend against Florida’s No. 51 Bob van Overbeek--a three set comeback win--and a straight set win over South Carolina’s No. 92 Nick Jones, moved him up the ITA’s singles rankings from the No. 62 player in the country to the No. 47 player.
