    Dores host Ball State Wednesday

    March 8, 2011

Looking to bounce back from two conference losses this past weekend, the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team hosts Ball State, Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Currey Tennis Center.

Although the Commodores have lost their last three matches, the team is still regarded as a top-25 program. In the latest ITA/Campbell’s Tennis College Ranking, Vanderbilt stands at 23rd, just one spot down from a week ago. In the No. 1 singles spot, Ryan Lipman holds an 8-4 record, while Charlie Jones and Bryant Salcedo are each 7-3 in dual matches. Salcedo and Blake Bazarnik have recently paired up in No. 3 doubles matches and have posted a 3-0 record.

Like the Commodores, the Cardinals hold an 8-4 record entering Wednesday’s match. On Saturday, Ball State dropped a 5-2 decision to Harvard. Cliff Morrison, ranked 103rd by the ITA, is 7-2 in dual matches, including a 5-1 mark at the No. 2 position. The doubles pair of Morrison and Zane Smith are a perfect 6-0 in No. 1 matches.

The Commodores return in SEC play this weekend when they host Georgia and Tennessee at the Currey Tennis Center.
