NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 18 Vanderbilt men's tennis team returns to Southeastern Conference play Sunday with a matchup against the 8th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies a the Currey Tennis Center. The match is set for noon, and admission to the Currey Tennis Center is free.
Vanderbilt (11-2, 2-0 SEC) is coming off a 6-1 win over Ball State on Friday. The Aggies (11-5, 2-1 SEC) suffered their first conference loss of the year on Friday as they were shut out by No. 22 Kentucky. Texas A&M is just 1-4 on the road this season.
On Friday the Commodores were able to easily take care of business against Ball State. After sweeping the doubles point, Vandy jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after Ryan Smith and Jeffrey Offerdahl posted impressive wins at No. 5 and No. 4, respectively.
No. 15 Gonzales Austin clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.
Sunday's match against the Aggies is sure to impress, as it will feature five ranked singles players and two of the top five doubles teams in the country.
A&M comes in to Nashville with the top-ranked doubles team in Junior Ore and Jackson Withrow. The Aggie duo has posted a 16-6 record and is a perfect 5-0 against nationally ranked teams.
First serve on Sunday is set for noon at the Currey Tennis Center. Admission to the match is free and it will be played outside unless weather drives the competition indoors.
