With a win over Northwestern last weekend, the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team improved to 7-1 on the season, and hold the 25th place ranking in the latest Campbell’s/ITA College Tennis Poll.
The Commodores open the weekend by hosting Indiana on Friday afternoon. The Hoosiers, ranked 44th by the ITA, hold a 9-3 record on the season. All three losses have come at the hands of top-25 teams: No. 16 Kentucky, No. 2 USC and No. 24 Oklahoma. Josh MacTaggart is the 80th ranked singles player in the nation and he holds a 10-2 record in the No. 2 position.
North Carolina, ranked 29th in the latest ITA poll, holds a 3-4 record entering Sunday’s match. The Tar Heels have five players in the top 120 singles players in the nation: Jose Hernandez (No. 30), Joey Burkhardt (71), Brennan Boyajian (101) and Stefan Hardy (107). The doubles pairs of Boyajian and Hernandez (20) and Hardy and Zach Hunter (44) are also ranked.
With a 6-2 record in No. 1 singles matches, Vanderbilt sophomore Ryan Lipman is the 57th-ranked singles player in the nation. Lipman and senior Adam Baker are the 33rd ranked doubles pair, while Alex Zotov and Charlie Jones are ranked 35th in the nation.
