NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The 18th-ranked Vanderbilt men's tennis team will hit to the road for the first time this season when it faces No. 58 Indiana and No. 33 Michigan. The Commodores are set to take on the Hoosiers on Friday at 2 p.m. from the IU Indoor Tennis Center, and the Wolverines on Sunday at noon from the Varsity Tennis Center.
The Commodores are 7-1 on the season and in the midst of a five-match win streak. The lone loss of the year for Vandy came against Texas in the opening round of the ITA Kick-off. Vanderbilt is most recently coming off a 5-1 win over then No. 18 Memphis.
No. 10 Gonzales Austin leads the Commodores in the ITA individual rankings, and will go into Bloomington with an unblemished 5-0 record in dual play. Also undefeated in dual play is junior Anton Kovrigin, who is 6-0 with wins at No. 3, 4 and 5 singles.
In doubles, Austin along with Ryan Lipman have put together a 15-3 season, including a record of 5-1 in dual play. Most recently the 6th-ranked Commodores knocked off No. 8 Joe Salisbury and David O'Hare of Memphis.
Indiana is at 6-4 on the season and is riding a four-match win streak. Sophomore Sam Monette has led the Hoosiers with a 7-2 record in dual play out of the No. 2 position.
Michigan has gotten off to a 3-4 start this year with wins over Western Michigan, Toledo and No. 11 Ole Miss. The Wolverines have lost four straight since their upset win over the Rebels.
Vanderbilt will continue play on the road after this weekend with its SEC opener at Arkansas.
