BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming off a match clinching victory, Vanderbilt men’s tennis player Blake Bazarnik was named SEC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday morning.
Bazarnik helped the Commodores sweep No. 59 Memphis at home on Friday. In the No. 4 singles match, he was down 5-2 to Leon Nasemann in the first set, but won five consecutive games to take the set, 7-5. In the second set, Bazarnik cruised to a 6-1 victory to win the match. His victory clinched the match win for the Commodores, who are now 4-1 on the season.
A native of Kildeer, Ill., Bazarnik stands 3-2 in singles play this season.
No. 44 Vanderbilt travels to Ann Arbor, Mich. this weekend for a pair of matches against No. 23 Washington and No. 22 Michigan.
