NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 15 Vanderbilt men's tennis team continues dual play Saturday, as they host Texas, Wake Forest and LSU for the ITA Kick-off weekend. The top-seeded Commodores will face fourth-seed Texas at 10 a.m., followed by No. 2 seed Wake Forest against No. 3 LSU at 2 p.m.
Over the course of the weekend, a total of 60 men's tennis programs will take the court with a hope to lockup one of the 15 berths for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, in February, hosted by Texas A&M University.
The Nashville regional features four teams all in the top 25 of the ITA. Vandy comes in as the top ranked team at No. 15, followed by Wake Forest (No. 19), Texas (No. 20) and LSU (No. 23).
The regional showcases nine ranked singles players and five ranked doubles teams. Vandy's Gonzales Austin is the highest ranked singles player in the country at No. 9, the 'Dores also have the highest ranked doubles team in Austin and Ryan Lipman at No. 2.
The fourth-seeded Longhorns come into Nashville 3-0 in dual matches this season, and feature three ranked singles players, led by No. 24 George Goldhoff. Texas' Soren Hess-Olesen and Lloyd Glasspool are currently ranked fifth in the country by the ITA.
The ITA Kick-off weekend will be the first national tournament to use the new experimental formats, according to the ITA.
The men will play all sets in singles and doubles to six games, with no-ad scoring and tie-breakers at 5-all. All third sets for men's singles will be played out unless the team match is decided.
The winners of each match on Saturday will face off Sunday at 2 p.m., with a chance to go to National Indoors on the line. The losers of each match, Saturday, will play in the consolation final, Sunday at 10 a.m.
