When the Commodores ended their season last year, the ITA ranked them No. 38 as a team. In the newest poll, released yesterday, the team moved up to No. 37.

Also moving up in the rankings from the pre-season poll released in September was senior Charlie Jones. Jones, originally ranked as No. 102, moved up to No. 87 after his play this fall. Jones advanced through the ITA Men's All American Championships before being forced to retire down in the third round. He played two marathon matches in the tournament, each lasting close to four hours.

Ryan Lipman, who made the pre-season list at No. 13, dropped out of the rankings after sitting the fall season while rehabbing an injury. The junior has been a dominant force for the Commodores while at Vanderbilt, being named ITA Rookie of the Year in 2010 and leading the 2011 team in wins with a 24-12 overall effort.

The young team opens their season on January 18th against the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders at the Currey Tennis Center at 2:00 p.m.
