TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Vanderbilt’s men’s tennis team got off to a hot start at the Crimson Tide Fall Invitational on Friday by winning 10 of 14 singles matches as five of eight players advanced to the semifinals of their respective draw.
The Crimson Tide Fall Invitational is divided into five singles draws and two doubles draws. In singles, the Commodores had players advance to the semifinals in four of the five draws. Posting two wins to reach the semifinals were senior Scott Lieberman, juniors Alex Zotov and Andy Pulido and sophomores Alex DiValerio and Charlie Jones.
Jones advanced to the semis of Bryant draw. Junior Adam Baker was unable to get out of the first round of the same draw.
Zotov and DiValerio each advanced to the semifinals of the Namath draw and would face each other in the final should both win their next match.
The only draw the Commodores were unable to collect a win in was the Stabler draw, where James Moye and Sam Wells were defeated.
Andy Pulido and Scott Lieberman advanced to the semifinals in the Musso and Stallings draws, respectively.
Vanderbilt had just two of its four doubles teams compete on Friday and finished with a 1-1 record, as Adam Baker and Charlie Jones won their opening match in the Crimson draw.
Vanderbilt will continue play at the tournament on Saturday.
