KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Rhys Johnson continued his strong fall play Sunday defeating Xavier's Jimmy Roebker to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2013 USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships.
Johnson was one of three Vanderbilt men's tennis players in action on Sunday.
Later in the day fifth-seeded Yee went up against Jarryd Chaplin of Tennessee. After losing the first set, Yee responded in the second set, winning 6-4. But it was Chaplin who would move on to the quarterfinals beating Yee in the third set 7-5.
Johnson, who has been playing great tennis all fall, showed once again what he is capable of. After knocking off sixth-seeded Pennington on Saturday, Johnson once again pulled the upset, this time beating ninth-seeded Jimmy Roebker of Xavier, 6-1, 6-2.
Singles quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled for Monday from the Goodfriend Center at the University of Tennessee.
Johnson will face David Biosca of ETSU in the quarterfinals, beginning at 10 a.m.
