Vanderbilt head men's golf coach Scott Limbaugh has announced the signing of Theo Humphrey to a National Letter of Intent on Friday. Humphrey, from Greenwich, Conn., will be eligible to compete for the Commodores in the fall of 2014.
Humphrey, who attends Rye Country Day School in Rye, N.Y., is currently ranked number 13 in the class of 2014 by the AJGA and the number 14-ranked player in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
"This is a very big day for our program," said Limbaugh. "To be able to sign a student-athlete like Theo says so much for the direction of this program. Coach Smith and I feel he is one of the very best players in the country. We are thankful to everyone here at Vanderbilt, including our administration, that continue to support us in our goal to be a championship program."
Humphrey was an AJGA honorable mention All-American in 2013, he won the Philadelphia AJGA for the 2nd straight year this past season, made match play at the U.S. Junior, qualified for the U.S. Amateur this past summer, and played on the East team at the Wyndham Cup in 2013. He also continued his very productive summer of 2013 with a fourth-place finish at the AJGARolex Tournament of Champions, a fifth-place standing at the Western Junior, and a third-place finish at the AJGA Bridgestone Golf Music City Junior.
"We are so excited to add Theo to our Vanderbilt Golf family," continued Limbaugh. "He is a very accomplished golfer and an extremely gifted student that comes from a great family. Theo is a high character person that has the burning desire to be great in the classroom and on the course. He has a great work ethic and he has proven that he knows how to win. Theo has a great imagination on the course that gives him the opportunity to shoot low numbers. He possesses all the intangibles that we look for during the recruiting process."
"Vanderbilt is a great school for both golf and academics, and I believe in Coach Limbaugh and his team," said Humphrey.
Humphrey will be the program's only class of 2014 signee.
