The Commodore men’s golf team will close their fall season in grand fashion this Monday through Wednesday when they travel to Atlanta, Ga., to compete in the East Lake Cup at the legendary East Lake Club in an event that will feature live coverage on the Golf Channel for all three days.
The East Lake Cup, now in its fourth season, brings the top four men’s and women’s teams from the previous season to compete in a hybrid stroke/match play format. The Commodores will play with Illinois, Oklahoma, and Oregon in one round of stroke play on Monday, and then two rounds of match play on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“It’s so exciting for our program to have this opportunity again this year,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “East Lake is truly one of the special places in golf with all of its history. This is a reward type of trip and it’s really a fun format with a bunch of great golf programs. We are thankful and fortunate for the opportunity.”
The Commodores will send senior Theo Humphrey, juniors Will Gordon and Patrick Martin, sophomore John Augenstein, and freshman Harrison Ott to compete this week.
Tee times begin at 11:12 a.m. CT on Monday, and around 11:00 a.m CT on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Live coverage of the action at East Lake will begin on the Golf Channel at 2 p.m. CT and will last until 5 p.m. CT.
“This event last year really helped us learn a lot about that team and ultimately it made us better,” said Limbaugh. “We need to have a great attitude this week, enjoy the moment, and get immersed in what each individual can do to help our team take another good step. We get to decide the truth about this team and moments like this certainly help you learn where you are and where you have to get to.”
