Schwab falls in Round of 16 at U.S. Amateur

Aug 15, 2013

BROOKLINE, Mass. - Vanderbilt’s Matthias Schwab lost the last two holes and was beaten 1-up by the current United States Junior Amateur champion Scottie Scheffler of Dallas in the Round of 16 at the United States Golf Amateur Championship.

Schwab started quickly and led much of the round. Scheffler managed to put the match All Square midway through the back nine and the contest see-sawed back and forth the rest of the way. An electronic scoring error mistakenly showed Schwab winning 3 & 2 at one point late in the afternoon. Schwab was 1-up after 16 before dropping the last two holes.

The Austria native will begin his career as a Vanderbilt freshman next week.
