Schwab advances to round of 32 at U.S. Am

Vanderbilt incoming freshman golfer Matthias Schwab won his first round match at the U.S. Amateur in Brookline, Mass., 2 & 1 over Purdue senior Adam Schenk Wednesday at The Country Club to advance to the round of 32 on Thursday.

Schwab, who trailed 2-down with seven holes to play, won four out of the last six holes to claim the match and advance to the round of 32.

The incoming freshman from Rohmoos, Austria, who is the 26th seed, will take on either Zac Blair of Ogden, Utah, who is the 58th seed, or Nick Hardy of Northbrook, Ill., the seven seed, at 9:10 ET. The winner advances to the quarterfinal on August 16 at 2:05 ET from The Country Club.
