Rising junior Carson Jacobs fired a one-under par 70 on Highlands Course at the Atlanta Athletic Club and is in a tie for 24th on the individual leader board after the first day of play at the 2014 U.S. Amateur. Jacobs, from Hendersonville, Tenn., is one of five Vanderbilt players competing in this week's event in Atlanta.
Stroke play continues on Tuesday with the top 64 individuals advancing to match play, which begins on Wednesday.
Other Commodore scores include rising senior Hunter Stewart, who carded a one-over par 72 and is in a tie for 70th, senior Ben Fogler, who sits at two-over par, 73, and is in a tie for 105th, junior Zack Jaworski, who finished the first round with a three-over, 75, and is in a tie for 133rd, and incoming freshman Theo Humphrey carded a four-over, 75, and is in a tie for 168th after the first day of play.
Jacobs, Stewart, Fogler, and Humphrey each played the Highlands Course, while Jaworski played at the AAC Riverside Course.
The second round continues on Tuesday at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
