MG announces '12-13 schedule
July 24, 2012
Vanderbilt men’s golf coach Scott Limbaugh has announced the Commodores’ slate of tournaments for the 2012-13 season, with Vanderbilt set to take on some of the world’s best courses and the nation’s best collegiate teams.
“We are excited about the schedule that we have put in place for this year,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We are going to give our student-athletes an opportunity to compete against the best players in the country on some of the best golf courses in the world.”
The Commodores once again begin their collegiate season at the Carmel Cup, and will take on Pebble Beach Golf Club and Spyglass August 31 through September 2.
“To begin the year at Pebble Beach to open our season is a once in a lifetime opportunity and our golfers will be able to compete on one of the most historic and well-known golf courses in the world,” said Limbaugh.
Vanderbilt returns home to play in its own Mason Rudolph Championship September 21-23, and then travels to Columbus, Ohio, to play in the Jack Nicklaus Invitational October 8-9. The Commodores close out their fall season at one of the nation’s premiere collegiate tournaments at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational at the Isleworth Golf Club in Florida (Oct. 21-23), and then heads to the ASU Fall Beach Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala., November 5-6 to close out their fall campaign.
“In the fall, we are playing in two of the best tournament in the country with the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational, which hosts the nation’s strongest field, and the Jack Nicklaus Invitational at Muirfield Village, which we were invited to for the first time this year. The Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club really will be an exciting weekend for us. Coach Rudolph was a great man who had a big impact on not only Vanderbilt University, but also on the people who knew him and were touched by him.”
Vanderbilt’s spring season begins in Mobile, Ala., at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate February 18-19, returns to Alabama at the Samford Intercollegiate in Birmingham on March 4-5, and then travels to the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., March 15-17. The Commodores then close out their spring schedule at the Memphis Intercollegiate March 25-26, and then at the Jim West Intercollegiate in Dallas, Texas April 8-9.
The SEC Championship will once again be played at the Sea Island Ocean Course April 19-21 in Sea Island, Ga.
“The Schenkel Invitational in the spring is another great tournament and really was the first tournament of its kind and set the precedent on how to host a first-class college golf tournament,” said Limbaugh. “We also play several courses in the spring that have hosted tour events in the Colonial Country Club in Memphis and TPC Craig Ranch in Dallas.”
The Commodores return six letterwinners from last year’s team, including rising junior Charlie Ewing, who was Vanderbilt’s second-leading scorer in 2011-12.
