The Atlanta Athletic Club in Atlanta will be a Vanderbilt golf haven this week when five Commodores tee it up at the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship. Rising seniors Ben Fogler and Hunter Stewart, juniors Carson Jacobs and Zack Jaworski, and incoming freshman Theo Humphrey will all compete in the nation's premiere amateur tournament.
"I am really happy for these guys to have the opportunity to play in the U.S. Amateur, which is the pinnacle of amateur golf," said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. "For us to have five guys playing is a credit to each one of them and it's very exciting for our program."
Fogler, Jacobs, Jaworski, and Humphrey all qualified at sectional qualifying events, while Stewart received an exemption to the tournament after participating in the U.S. Open earlier this summer. Fogler qualified in Blythewood, S.C., Jacobs in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jaworski in Atlanta, and Humphrey in Goshen, Conn.
Two rounds of stroke play will occur on August 11 and 12, with the top 64 golfers heading to match play at The Atlanta Athletic Club after that.
The Commodores' five players is tied with Arkansas for the second-most by a college program in this week's field, with Texas placing six players in the tournament.
Snedeker Closes Strong at PGA Championship
