Hunter Stewart wins Players Amateur

July 15, 2013

Vanderbilt rising junior Hunter Stewart claimed the 14th Annual Players Amateur on Sunday after the fourth and final round of the tournament was scrapped due to rain after five holes.

Stewart finished at 14-under par, 202 after 54 holes, and beat out University of California senior Michael Weaver by one stroke, South Florida's Chase Koepka by six strokes, and seven strokes better than Alabama's Bobby Wyatt and Tom Lovelady.  Weaver and Wyatt were both first-team All-Americans in 2013, and both were named to the Palmer Cup this year, an annual team golf competition that features 10 of the best American and European college players.

With the win, Stewart earns a spot in next year's RBC Heritage, a PGA Tour event that takes place at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, S.C.
