Vanderbilt alum Brandt Snedeker carded six birdies in route to a first-round 69 at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst #2, while rising senior Hunter Stewart shot a five-over, 75, in his inaugural round in Pinehurst, N.C.
Snedeker, who teed of in one of the tournament's earliest Thursday tee times, got off to a fast start and shot a front-nine 31, making four birdies. After hiccups on 10, 11, and 12, the former Vanderbilt standout rebounded with a 30-foot birdie on 16 and ended his round with a one-under, 69.
Stewart, who claimed a spot in the field after qualifying in Memphis at the Colonial Country Club, made two birdies and seven bogeys in his round at Pinehurst in route to his 75.
Both will continue play on Tuesday, with Stewart teeing off at 8:57 ET off of number one, and Snedeker at 1:03 p.m. ET off of number 10.
