The Vanderbilt men's golf team heads to their final regular season tournament of the 2013-14 season this Monday and Tuesday at the Reunion Intercollegiate in Jackson, Miss. The tournament will be held at the Reunion Golf and Country Club, which will be set up as a par-72, 7,416-yard format for the 54-hole event.
Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday, with the final 18 holes taking place on Tuesday.
“The Reunion is an event we were able to add because our SEC Championship is a week later this year," said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. "We are really excited about the tournament and finishing our regular season strong as we get ready for the postseason. Reunion is a very good golf course and should be a great opportunity for our team.”
The Commodores will send senior Charlie Ewing, sophomore Carson Jacobs, junior Jordan Janico, sophomore Zack Jaworski, and junior Ben Fogler to the tournament. Vanderbilt will be without the services of freshman Matthias Schwab, who is still resting a back injury, and junior Hunter Stewart, who will participate in the RBC Heritage Classic, a PGA Tour event that begins on Thursday in Hilton Head, S.C.
“We will have a lineup that we have not had before as Matthias continues to work to get his back injury better," said Limbaugh. "It’s very important that we make sure he has plenty of time to get well. Also, Hunter earned an exemption in the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head for winning the Players Amateur last summer, so he will be missing his first event of his Vanderbilt career.
"However, we are excited about this group and I know they are excited about this opportunity and they will embrace it. Our focus continues to be on being able to concentrate to do the simple things correctly and building off of a lot of the positive areas we saw last week here at the Mason.”
Competing with the Commodores this week will be the host Ole Miss Rebels, Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, Houston, Jackson State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Mississippi State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss, and Western Kentucky.
