The Vanderbilt men's golf team travels to Naples, Fla., this Sunday and Monday to participate in the Talis Park Challenge in an event hosted by Ball State University. The tournament will take place at the Talis Park Golf Club, which will be set up as a par 72, 7,025-yard format.
The Commodores will compete against Austin Peay, host Ball State, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Florida Gulf Coast, Indiana, IUPUI, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, Toledo, Wichita State, and Xavier.
“Our guys are excited to head down to Naples and play a great golf course," said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. "We have been working to build off some of the positive areas we had in our last tournament and improve so we can move one step closer to being the team that we know we can be. We need to continue to have the right focus on the right things. ”
Vanderbilt will send junior Hunter Stewart, senior Charlie Ewing, sophomores Carson Jacobs and Zack Jaworski, along with junior Jordan Janico. Freshman Matthias Schwab will not make the trip to rest an injured back.
“Matthias has a chronic back condition that often requires a few days of rest," said Limbaugh. "Our training staff, Matthias, and I made the decision that it was best for him to rest this week. While he will be missed, it is certainly a great opportunity for this team to continue to grow and see who will lift us up. “
Thirty-six holes will be played on Sunday, with the final 18 being played Monday. Live scoring can be found on Birdiefire.com for the duration of the tournament.
