The Commodores’ men’s golf team, currently ranked number three in the latest Golfstat rankings, heads to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, to take on one of collegiate golf’s best fields this Sunday through Tuesday at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate. The teams in Cabo will play at the par-72, 6,928-yard Querencia Golf Club.
The Commodores will participate with #1 Oklahoma State, #6 Baylor, #12 California, #13 Wake Forest, #15 Texas, #17 Stanford, #18 Arkansas, #20 Florida State, #24 USF, #27 Arizona State, #44 Mississippi, #49 Duke, Houston and Rice at the three-day event.
“Our group is excited about this next tournament, not only because it’s Cabo, but because we get to try to take another step towards being the team we want to be,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We have a different lineup and I am really excited to see this group and see them compete. I told the guys today I want to see some growth from the last tournament and that looks a little different to each guy. That can be body language and self-talk for one guy or it may just be having better focus on the right things for another guy. Whatever it is then the expectation is to do it better this week than you did last week.”
The Commodores will send senior Theo Humphrey, juniors Will Gordon and Patrick Martin, sophomore John Augenstein and freshman Cooper Sears. Redshirt freshman Mason Greenberg will also compete as an individual for the tournament.
“Querencia is a special place and they do an unbelievable job with this tournament,” said Limbaugh. “It’s a championship golf course with a championship field and we are very thankful for the opportunity to play in events like this.”
