The number-one ranked Vanderbilt Men’s Golf team opens their spring season this Friday through Sunday in Houston, Texas, at the All-American Intercollegiate this weekend. Vanderbilt will compete with 17 other teams at The Golf Club of Houston, which will be set up as a par-72, 7,096-yard format.
The Commodores will send senior Matthias Schwab, junior Theo Humphrey, sophomores Will Gordon and Patrick Martin, and freshman John Augenstein to compete in the team competition. Sophomore Andrew Jacobe, from Houston, Texas, will play as an individual.
“The spring season is very exciting. Everyone has had a nice break from golf and is energized to get going again,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “This will be our first trip to The Golf Club of Houston so it will be a fun new preparation. It’s another opportunity to play a championship course that the PGA Tour plays and I know our guys are excited. We have had a good few months of working on both our strengths and areas of improvement. We don’t want to be a group that is satisfied with where we are. Our only focus has been on getting better every day. We have to continue to be a group that does the little things well and we need to be more consistent as a team. That’s consistency in performance of course, but it’s also consistency in attitudes, focus, and all the other small details we always talk about.”
#1 Vanderbilt will compete with #13 Baylor, #21 Auburn, #38 South Carolina, Charlotte, Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, New Mexico State, Rice, Sam Houston State, Samford, SMU, Southeastern Louisiana, UTSA and Wisconsin.
The Commodores will begin their round at 9:08 CT off of the number one tee on Friday.
Golfstat.com will have live results from the tournament all weekend.
