Hunter Stewart finishes in third at prestigious Jones Cup

Vanderbilt junior Hunter Stewart carded a three-over par, 219 (75-74-70) to finish third at the prestigious Jones Cup in Sea Island, Ga., one of the world's top amateur tournaments, over the weekend. Stewart finished one stroke back of leaders Corey Conners and Austin Connelly for the individual crown.
Stewart fired the best round of the tournament on Sunday at the Ocean Forest Golf Club with a two-under par, 70. The junior from Lexington, Ky., had three birdies and a bogey in his round on Sunday.
The Jones Cup field featured five members of the U.S. Walker Cup team (Cory Whitsett, Bobby Wyatt, Michael Weaver, Nathan Smith, and Todd White) and the 2013 British Amateur Champion, Garrick Porteous. Previous champions include former Vanderbilt standout Luke List, DJ Trahan, Gregg Jones, Nicholas Thompson, Kyle Stanley, Patrick Reid, John Peterson, Justin Thomas and Sean Dale. Past participants range from current and future PGA Tour stars including Commodore star Brandt Snedeker, Luke Donald, Rickie Fowler, Lucas Glover, Dustin Johnson, Chris Kirk, Jeff Overton, Webb Simpson, Bubba Watson, Gary Woodland and Jordan Spieth.
Vanderbilt's Mills Rendell also competed at the tournament and finished in a tie for 83rd with a final total of 239 (80-79-79).
The Commodores open their spring season at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., February 15 and 16.
