After a two-month layoff from the course, the Commodore men’s golf team returned to practice last weekend to gear up for their spring season, which begins February 17-18 in Gainesville at the SunTrust Gator Invitational.
Here’s a look at the goings on with Commodore Golf as the team prepares for spring play.
Commodores ranked 6th heading into spring season
After claiming the individual and team title at the East Lake Cup in Atlanta to end their fall season, Vanderbilt is ranked sixth by Golfstat.com heading into the spring season as a team, and have three players, Will Gordon (20), Theo Humphrey (27), and Patrick Martin (34) in the top 34 players in the nation.
Gordon closed out his fall campaign with the individual title at the East Lake Cup.
Snedeker, List to play at Torrey Pines this week
Former Commodores Brandt Snedeker, a two-time winner at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines (2012 and 2016), and Luke List will tee it up this weekend in San Diego.
Snedeker will tee off at 10:30 a.m. Pacific time with Jon Rahm and Jason Day, while List will tee off at 10:20 a.m. Pacific with David Lingmerth and Alex Cejka.
Prestigious Jones Cup this weekend
Four Commodores, John Augenstein, Will Gordon, Theo Humphrey, and Patrick Martin, will tee it up this weekend at the 2018 Jones Cup Invitational in Sea Island, Ga., at the Ocean Forest Golf Club.
The event will take place January 26-28 in Sea Island.
Schwab to play first European Tour event next week
Former Commodore Matthias Schwab will make his European Tour debut next week at the Maybank Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Schwab earned his European Tour card after carding a final-round 67 to finish in a tie for 18th at the Final Qualifying stage in Tarragona, Spain, in November.
