ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Vanderbilt junior Luke List carded a four-round total of seven-under-par (281) to win the 80th New Year's Invitational at the St. Petersburg Country Club.
The Ringgold, Ga., native shot a final-round 71 (one-under) to secure a two-stroke victory over the University of Tennessee's Jonathan Mount. Tarik Can (Texas) and Michael Wilson (California) finished tied for third at 285.
With the win, List -- the 2004 U.S. Amateur runner-up -- moved into 14th place in the Golfweek/Titleist Men's Amateur Rankings.
"This is one of the premier winter events in amateur golf," Vanderbilt Head Coach Press McPhaul said. "We've had success at this tournament in the past, and its great to see another Commodore take home this title."
Former Commodore Brandt Snedeker captured this event in 2004, shooting a six-under 66 on the final day to edge out Kentucky alum John Holmes.
The Vanderbilt men's golf team opens the spring portion of the 2005-06 schedule at the Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla., for the Seminole Intercollegiate, March 5-7.
