April 3, 2012
Two Vanderbilt golfers, sophomore Charlie Ewing and junior Will Snipes, finished tied for the individual lead this week at the Arkansas State Red Wolf Intercollegiate in Jonesboro, Ark., on Tuesday. Ewing and Snipes finished with a four-under par, 209, and lost in a four-hole playoff to Sawyer Radler of Arkansas State.
Both Ewing and Snipes, along with playoff participants Radler and Graham Sleigh of Tennessee-Martin, each parred their first three holes of the playoff, but Radler won the playoff with a birdie on the fourth hole.
The Commodores, as a team, finished in third place out of 22 teams in the two-day event with a three-round score of 864 (299-284-281).
Ewing and Snipes both shot 70 in their final 18 holes around the par 71, 6,473-yard RidgePointe Country Club on Tuesday. Freshman Hunter Stewart had the team’s best round on Tuesday, posting a three-under par 68.
“We played better today, but we had too big of a hole to climb out of.,” said Vanderbilt head coach Tom Shaw. “We did some good things out there today. The conditions were very ideal.”
Arkansas-Little Rock won the team title with a final total of 848 (289-285-274).
The Commodores will play next Monday and Tuesday at the Memphis Intercollegiate in Memphis, Tenn., in their final regular season event before the SEC Championship April 18-20.
