First Day Results

Gainesville, Fla. - The sixth-ranked Vanderbilt men's golf team has the tournament lead by one shot after two rounds of play at the SunTrust Gator Invitational with a team total of 552 (274-278), one shot better than the host Gators at their own par-70, 6,701-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course. The final 18 holes will all be played Sunday in Gainesville.

The Commodores were led by senior Theo Humphrey, who carded a pair of 68s to finish the day with a 136 total and tied for third on the individual leader board. Humphrey trails individual leader South Florida's Claudio Correa by two shots and second-place Jake Storey of Georgia Southern by one heading into the tournament's final round.

Two other Vanderbilt players, juniors Will Gordon and Patrick Martin, are tied for 10th after each shot a two-under, 136, in their two rounds on Saturday. Sophomore John Augenstein is in a tie for 23rd with an even-par 140 (69-71) and redshirt freshman Mason Greenberg finished his two rounds with a total of 144 (72-72, T-45).

"It was really fun to be back out there competing," said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh.  "The guys were certainly excited to get going again. The morning round was probably a little easier with less wind and we got off to a fast start which was good. Gordo played a big round and Theo was solid all day. I was proud of how John finished that first round as well. However, we didn't finish the round off like we want to so definitely glad we got to go right back out and play some more.  The wind definitely blew a little harder this afternoon so it was a tough test. Patrick did a great job staying patient and waiting on his game and it paid off for him. Will and Mason fought hard this afternoon which was big. We want our guys always fighting to try to get or keep momentum and that can look different every time you play. Guys that understand that usually allows them to be in every round. That's an important part of growth."

Vanderbilt holds a one-shot lead on the host Gators and a six shot lead on third-place UCF. The Commodores finished the day second in pars (123) and par-four scoring (4.03) and third in par-three (3.08) and par-five (4.63) scoring. Humphrey paced the individual field in par-four scoring (3.85), while Martin was the only player on Saturday to card two eagles.

The final round of the SunTrust Gator Invitational concludes Sunday in Gainesville."Tomorrow will be a tough challenge and should be a lot of fun," said Limbaugh.  "It's the next opportunity we have to compete, so that means it's important and we need to embrace it."
