Quick Slant: Bowl seating deadline

Dec. 6, 2012

Quick Slant is an array of brief insights and occasionally opinionated overviews of collegiate athletics in general and the Vanderbilt Commodores in particular.

The first round of seating in Vanderbilt's section for the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl begins Saturday. National Commodore Club members have priority but to exercise that priority, orders must be received by our ticket office by 5:00 p.m. Friday.

Please remember if you have not yet purchased your bowl tickets that the only ones we get "credited" with going forward are the ones we sell through our own ticket office. This becomes very significant when we talk to future bowl committees; as we mentioned in this space last week, we must prove to outsiders that we can and will support our team as well or better than a state school or we risk losing the benefit of doubt in a close decision.

There is a nice assortment of activities leading up to the actual football game, some planned by the bowl itself and a couple of others hosted by Vanderbilt. Several will be free of cover charge. Since there tend to be new enhancements to the agenda, the best advice is to continue checking our Bowl Central online headquarters for the latest information. Keep in mind there is a lot more fun to the bowl experience than just the game!

We've gotten reports of fans listening to our Commodore Call-In, our weekly coaches radio shows, in Florida and Michigan and during Kevin Stalling's first show a basketball fan driving through Illinois picked up the program and gave us a call. That is an example of the power that NewsRadio 1510 WLAC's clear channel can bring to Commodore athletics. Its signal can be heard in 28 states.

Speaking of basketball, with the students away on holiday break there are good, low level seats available for Alabama A&M, Cornell, Butler and William & Mary men's games.
