Cole, Stokes named Academic All-District Team

Vanderbilt football players John Cole and John Stokes have been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District IV first team, it was announced by the Academic All-America Committee Tuesday afternoon.

Cole has played in seven games for the Commodores this season and is third on the team with 329 total yards and second on the team with 216 receiving yards. He has also returned 13 punts for 114 yards. The Somerset, Ky. native holds a 3.63 GPA while majoring in Human and Organizational development. Cole was a member of the SEC Honor Roll in 2009.

Stokes, a senior from Memphis, has played in 44 games since arriving on campus. Currently in the midst of his best season, he ranks third on the team with 35 solo tackles and 55 total tackles, including four for loss.

Stokes has maintained a 3.80 GPA while majoring in Health, Medicine and Society. He will begin medical school at Vanderbilt in the fall of 2011. This is the third consecutive year that Stokes has been recognized at the district level for his academic achievements.

ESPN The Magazine and CoSIDA will announce its Academic All-American Team on Nov. 23.
