Townsend is SEC OL of the week
Oct. 22, 2012
NASHVILLE -- Sophomore offensive lineman Joe Townsend has been named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week. The Hendersonville, Tenn., native recorded 10 knockdown blocks in the Commodores' 17-13 win over Auburn.
Townsend also helped pave the way for the Commodores to record 209 rushing yards against the Tigers, 169 of which came from Zac Stacy. The running back also became Vanderbilt's all-time leading rusher in the contest.
Townsend was making just his second-career start at center. Of his 10 knockdown blocks, four helped spring Commodore rushers for a touchdown or a first down.
He becomes the second Vanderbilt player to pick-up an SEC weekly award this season, joining Richard Kent who earned special team honors after the October 6 win over Missouri.
Townsend and the Commodores return to action this Saturday, October 27, when they host Massachusetts in the annual homecoming game at Vanderbilt Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. CT and tickets are still available by calling 615-322-GOLD or clicking here.
