Head Coach Jeff Genyk:
2007 marks the fourth season for Genyk as the head coach of EMU. He has compiled a career record of 11-27. Prior to his position at Eastern Michigan, Genyk was an assistant coach at Northwestern for twelve years. Before Northwestern, he was an assistant coach at Grand Rapids Community College from 1990-1992. He played quarterback for Bowling Green State from 1978-1981.
QB #7 Andy Schmitt (6'4" 230 lbs So.):
Last week vs. Howard, Schmitt tossed four touchdowns on 14-of-21 passing. He also threw for 214 yards in the game. Schmitt's performance raised his passer rating to 137.79. In four games this season, he leads the team in total offense with 177.5 YPG.
LB #44 Daniel Holtzclaw (6'1 240 lbs. Jr.):
A member of the 2007 Rotary Lombardi watch list, Holtzclaw posted a career-high 19 tackles last weekend vs. Howard University. The double-digit tackle effort was the 12th of his career. Earlier this season, Holtzclaw was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for his 13 tackle and 1 interception performance vs. Northern Illinois. He has started all 27 games of his college career. After his freshman season in 2005, Holtzclaw was named to three freshman All-American teams.
P #33 Zach Johnson (6'0" 185 lbs. So.):
Johnson was named to the 2007 Ray Guy Award Preseason Watch List. He was a semifinalist for the award in 2006. Johnson was named an honorable mention Freshman All-American by The Sporting News last season. Last weekend vs. Howard, he also handled place-kicking and kickoff duties for the first time. In the game, he averaged 41.8 yards per punt and made a 22-yard field goal. Through four games this season, Johnson's 43.24 yards per punt are good for 23rd best in the NCAA.
Eastern Michigan averages 112.5 YPG rushing and 166 YPG passing. On Sept. 15 vs. Northern Illinois, the Eagles ran and passed for 189 yards each.
TB Pierre Walker leads the team in rushing with 53.25 YPG.
WR DeAnthony White averages 3.75 receptions per game and 45.5 receiving YPG, both team highs.
EMU allows an average of 181 yards on the ground per game and surrender a total of 390.5 YPG.
The Eagles have been outscored by their opponents a combined 31-13 in the first quarter.
Eastern Michigan is fifth in the country in net punting average: 40.88.
EMU athletics director Dr. Derrick Gragg is a Vanderbilt alumnus. From 1988-1991, he was a wide receiver on the Commodore football team before graduating in 1992.
