On TSU's second half turnovers: "It's really unfortunate. I have to give Vanderbilt credit. They did what they needed to do to win. It's unfortunate that turnovers were crucial in this game and they're crucial in any game. This was a hard fought game. Those two turnovers -- you can't take them back. If you just saw the score, you wouldn't know how hard fought of a game this was."
On TSU's offensive rhythm: "Vanderbilt's defense played really well. They have great speed. Our trying to find a rhythm had to do with their great defensive play."
On Quarterback Antonio Heffner: "We ran the ball with Antonio [Heffner] so much because we had to find out what would work and letting him take the ball was working. You have to stick with what works. We're trying to win the ballgame and we're going to do what it takes."
On the future of the Vanderbilt/TSU series: "I would like to not have to play here every year. I want to play on our home field too."
On what TSU can take away from this game: "I think there's a lot that our players can take away from this game. You can do two things after every game: you can get better or you can get worse. I like to think that we'll get better. Our players played with Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt did what it needed to do to win. Vanderbilt knows that we were in this football game. We turned the ball over. I told my players that, when they're in a dogfight, you can't turn the ball over."
Tennessee State Player Quotes
Sophomore Quarterback Antonio Heffner
Whether the offense's slow start was due to hype: "I don't think that it was that much hype. Once the game started we wanted to try to win the game. Once we got going and we had some good field position there, things were working. Then we came out in the second half and had some bad field position."
On the interception in the end zone: "Once I threw the ball, there was nothing I could do. I threw the ball and he tipped it. His teammate was right there to make the catch and he kept his feet inbounds. I don't think it got us down. We came back out and kept fighting. I never give up. I'm a player who never holds my head down."
On whether he'd like to see a regular series between TSU and VU: "I'd play them again tomorrow if I could. I think it'd be great."
On what to take away from this week: "We just have to go out and practice hard this week. We just have to go out and prepare for FAMU."
