NASHVILLE - Vanderbilt officials are urging fans planning to attend the Mississippi State football game this Saturday to be prepared for the westbound closure of Interstate 440 between interstates 65 and 40 in Nashville.
Tickets remain for the important early-season Southeastern Conference game. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
The biggest impact for fans attending the game should be those arriving from the south on I-65 and southeast on I-24.
Local residents are urged to avoid the I-440 closure by using nearby surface streets toward at the stadium, including Charlotte Avenue, Murphy Road, West End Avenue, Hillsboro Blvd., Belmont Blvd., Granny White Pike and Franklin Road.
For those travelling from out of Nashville area, here's some helpful directions avoiding the closure and getting to Vanderbilt Stadium and the university:
From I-65 (traveling northbound from Alabama): Best two options are...
Continue on I-65 through I-440 interchange and take either of four nearby exits: Exit 81 (Wedgewood Avenue). Turn left at exit interchange, Vanderbilt campus is 2.5 miles on right.
(OR) continue on I-65 1 mile past Wedgewood Ave., take the I-65/I-40 split left (Memphis/Louisville) and exit at either: 209A (Broadway ) At off-ramp, turn left, Vanderbilt campus is 2 miles to west.
From I-65 (traveling southbound from Kentucky):
Closure will not affect getting to Vanderbilt Stadium.
From I-40 (traveling eastbound from Memphis):
Closure will not affect arriving at Vanderbilt Stadium. Take I-440 eastbound 1 mile to Murphy Road exit. At off ramp, turn left on Murphy Road, go .25 mile and turn left on West End Avenue. Stadium is 1 mile on right.
Departure from stadium is impacted: Leaving campus, go eastbound on either West End, Church Street or Charlotte Avenue 2 miles and enter I-40 at exits 209B, 209A or 209.
