Vanderbilt will look to remain undefeated in 2007 when the Commodores host the Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday at 11:30 a..m. CST in Nashville, Tenn. The game will be televised by Lincoln Financial Sports.

Head Coach Nick Saban:
Saban, with a career 92-42-1 record as a collegiate head coach, is in his first year at the helm of Alabama after spending two years as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins of the NFL. Before this season in Tuscaloosa, his last collegiate head coaching job was with the LSU Tigers from 2000-2004 where he compiled an overall record of 48-16 while also winning a national championship (2003), two SEC championships (2001, 2003), and three SEC West Division championships (2001-2003). Before LSU, he served as head coach at Michigan State from 1995-1999.



QB #14 John Parker Wilson (6'2 213 lbs Jr.):
Last week vs. WCU, Wilson completed 17 of 25 passes for 189 yards and 1 touchdown in limited action. In 2006, he set Alabama single-season records for total yards, pass attempts, completions, yards, and touchdowns.

TB #29 Terry Grant (5'10 188 lbs. Fr.):
In his first collegiate start last week, Grant rushed 18 times for 134 yards and 3 touchdowns in the first half. Grant scored a 47-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage.



WR #22 D.J. Hall (6'2" 195 lbs. Sr.):
Last week vs. WCU, Hall caught 4 passes for 52 yards. In 2006, Hall hauled in 62 passes and set single-season school records in receiving yards (1,056) and 100-yard games (7). Hall has caught at least one pass in 19 consecutive games.

LB #21 Prince Hall (5'11" 235 lbs. So.):
Hall was the 2006 SEC Freshman of the Year and a Freshman All-American. He made his first career start last season vs. VU and had 3 tackles. He had 77 tackles and a team-leading 10 ½ tackles for loss during his freshman season.



CB #2 Simeon Castille (6'1" 193 lbs. Sr.):
Castille posted 5 tackles and 1 ½ tackles for loss last Saturday vs. WCU. He is a preseason First-Team All-SEC pick and was a member of the 2006 First-Team All-SEC Defense. In 2006 vs. VU, he registered 2 interceptions.

LT #71 Andre Smith (6'4" 340 lbs. So.):
Smith is on the 2007 Outland Trophy watch list, an award given annually to the nation's top interior lineman. He was a 2006 All-SEC pick and Freshman All-American.



Talking Points:

Vanderbilt WR Earl Bennett is the reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Week after his record setting 223 receiving yard performance vs. Richmond. Last season vs. Alabama, Bennett caught 5 passes for 45 yards and 1 touchdown.

Saturday will mark the 82nd meeting between the Alabama and Vanderbilt football teams. Alabama beat Vanderbilt 13-10 last season.

In their last outing, Alabama defeated Western Carolina 52-6. The 52 points scored were the most by Alabama on an opening day since a 66-0 win over Cal in 1973.

In the game vs. Western Carolina, the Crimson Tide's offense set school single-game records with 35 first downs and 575 total yards.

Saturday's game vs. Vanderbilt is the 2007 SEC opener for Alabama. Alabama is 47-20-4 all-time in SEC openers, including a current 15-game winning streak.

Alabama tight end Nick Walker and Vanderbilt quarterback Chris Nickson were high school teammates at Pike County in Brundidge, Ala. In 2003, the duo led their team to the Class 3A State Championship.

Paul "Bear" Bryant, legendary head coach of Alabama, coached offensive linemen at Vanderbilt in the early 1940s.
