As kick off approaches for the Commodores' and College Football's first game of the year here are a few things we want to remind fans about entering Thursday. For a full run down of what to expect in and around Vanderbilt Stadium, check out our Gameday Central.
Let's be honest, traffic on West End between 4-6 p.m. on a normal Thursday is not free flowing so this abnormal Thursday could be tough for those on the roads. The Commodores kick off the 2012 College Football season at 6 p.m. against #9 South Carolina but the Tennessee Titans also kick off at 6 p.m. in their final preseason tune-up against New Orleans. To do the math, that's two football stadiums that expect to be full with potentially 110,000 fans combined separated by a mere 3.5 miles. To say traffic could be a nightmare is a huge understatement. Traffic near Vanderbilt Stadium is expected to be extremely slow so we suggest that wherever you are going, you try to get there early. Vandyville opens at 3 p.m. with Coach Franklin and the Commodores walking down Dore Alley at 3:35 p.m. allowing fans to get to the stadium early and enjoy pregame festivities for the first time this season.
As usual, two roads around Vanderbilt Stadium will be closed starting at 9 a.m. Thursday morning. Natchez Trace from West End to Children's Way and Jess Neely Drive from Natchez Trace to 25th Avenue will be shutdown until after the game.
All parking lots will open at 9 a.m. Thursday morning so if you're a die hard tailgater (and have the day off) come really early, avoid all the traffic and enjoy the day.
Terrace Place and Wesley Place Garages offer free parking for fans. The garages are located just off 21st Avenue with a scenic walk through campus to the stadium. Additional parking is available for $10 in the 25th Avenue Garage on the corner of 25th Avenue and Jess Neely Drive but fans should be aware of potentially bad traffic near the entrance of the 25th Avenue Garage as game time approaches. The garage can be accessed from 25th Avenue, 24th Avenue and Highland Avenue.

Tickets for the game are still available and can be purchased by clicking here or calling 615.322.GOLD.
For fans that have already purchased tickets and have them waiting at will call, we suggest you pick them up prior to game time if possible. The box office in McGugin Center opens at 8:30 a.m. and encourages fans to pick up their tickets as soon as possible on Thursday. So if you have time on your lunch break and dislike standing in long lines waiting to pick up your tickets, come get them early.
The stadium box office will open at 4 p.m. and is located next to Gate 3 (near Hawkins Field). Stadium gates will also open at 4 p.m.
No one can predict the weather or control it, but the forecast at game time calls for temperatures in the mid 80s with a slight breeze and a small chance of rain. Please remember, umbrellas are not allowed in the stadium. For a full list of stadium policies, click here.
Thursday night is a black out so please wear black to the game, be loud and have fun. Go Dores!
