Hudson earns preseason All-SEC honors from league coaches
Senior punter Taylor Hudson was named to the Coaches' All-Southeastern Conference preseason squad today.
Hudson, from Olentangy Liberty H.S. in Powell, Ohio, was named to the Coaches' third-team preseason squad.
Hudson, who is in competition with sophomore Colby Cooke for the starting role this year, was the only Vanderbilt player recognized by the 14 conference coaches.
Hudson ranked among the conference's top punters in 2013, his first year as a starter. He averaged 42.9 yards on 48 punts, ranking seventh in the SEC and among the nation's top 30 punters. His 38.9-yard net average also ranked high nationally.
Hudson's 13 punts of 50 yards or more, including a season long of 75 yards at South Carolina, were the fourth highest total in the SEC. He also had 11 of his punts downed inside the opponent's 20-yard line and just two resulting in touchbacks.
Hudson also is an outstanding scholar-athlete, earning District IV Academic All-America honors during the 2013 campaign. He is a 2012 and 2013 SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient.
