Franklin Post-Scrimmage Interview

NASHVILLE - Vanderbilt's top offensive and defensive units dominated the team's second preseason scrimmage, staged Saturday night in Vanderbilt Stadium.

Just like a week ago, Austyn Carta-Samuels effectively directed the Commodore offense on touchdown drives of 61, 56 and 64 yards. The senior quarterback also guided the offense to a pair of field goals in six total possessions. The touchdown drives were capped by Wesley Tate, Brian Kimbrow and Carta-Samuels rush attempts.

Jerron Seymour and Kimbrow paced the rushing attack with 48 and 42 yards, respectively. Jonathan Krause topped the receiving corps with 45 yards on five catches, including three acrobatic receptions in heavy traffic.

The Commodores' top defense held the second-unit offense scoreless throughout the 15-drive scrimmage. The defense highlights included four jarring tackles and three pass breakups by linebacker Darreon Herring, two quarterback sacks by defense end Caleb Azubike and a pair of defensed passes by cornerback Tre Bell.

The Commodores will take Sunday off and return to practice Monday afternoon at the John Rich Practice Facility.
