Defense wins day on Friday

Aug. 4, 2017

Mother Nature won the day early on Friday afternoon forcing the Commodores inside the Multipurpose Facility, but the Commodores' defense took over once inside.

The defense was aggressive in 7-on-7 drills and followed it up with more aggression and energy in team drills at the end of the session. The secondary locked down the passing game throughout passing drills allowing only Trent Sherfield to make a nice catch-and-run for a long gain and a pair of nice catches from Jackson Winrow. In team drills the defensive front showed a physical presence cutting down running lanes and getting pressure on the quarterback.

"I thought the energy and effort was high on the defensive side of the ball," head coach Derek Mason said following the near 90-minute workout.

Real Football
The Commodores are set to play real football in full pads tomorrow morning with a scrimmage. The scrimmage will be the first of fall camp for the Dores. Dore Jam
Vanderbilt is set to host the team's annual fan day event - Dore Jam - tomorrow from 4-6 p.m. inside the Multipurpose Facility.

Fans will enter through a new entrance on Saturday off Children's Way, which will be closed to accommodate another addition to the event - food trucks from Pig N Pit, A Little Italian and Blue Monkey Shaved Ice. Free parking is available close to the new entrance: West Garage located at the corner of 25th Avenue South and Children's Way and surface lots 73, 74, 75 and 73A off Natchez Trace.

Head coach Derek Mason and the entire Vanderbilt football team will be on hand to greet fans and sign 2017 schedule posters that will be distributed free at the entrance. For the first time, Dore Jam also will feature live music from The Remedies, considered among Music City's top cover bands. Women's soccer head coach Darren Ambrose and his Commodore squad also will be on hand to sign schedule posters.
