Hal Selected by Texans

On if he knew the Texans were interested in him
“I met with them at the East West Shrine Game, but I didn’t know they were this interested until the draft.”

On the last time talking with the Texans
“Well, they called for my draft day number, so I talked to them probably last week.”

On how excited he is to get in and start playing
“I am so excited; I can’t wait. I am ready to leave right now. I am in Nashville right now. I graduated yesterday from Vanderbilt. I am just ready to get down there and start working. This has been my dream since I was a kid, getting drafted and making it to the NFL. I am so excited right now.”

On what his degree was in
“My degree is in Sociology.”

On prior visits to Houston
“Yeah, I have a couple of family members in Houston. I’ve been going there probably once a year and see some of my family members down there. I have a couple members down there.”

On what he knows about the Texans defense
“I know y’all just drafted Jadeveon Clowney, so I would love to be behind him and get some pass rush and get some interceptions off of him.”

On how much he likes returning kicks
“I love returning kicks. I did it for all of my career at Vanderbilt; I did it in high school. I had a touchdown against Georgia my sophomore year. I like doing it man. I like having the ball in my hands.”

On a characteristic people should know about him
“I am super competitive. I hate to lose. I don’t take no for an answer, I go get it. If someone says no, I am going to keep going until they say yes. That’s how I am. I’m going to go get it, I never stop.”

On his biggest strengths as a corner
“Just being able to read and react. I study a lot of film. I can play press, I can play off-man, I can play zone; I pretty much do everything to tell you the truth.”

On if he studies technique as a corner
“I study technique quite a bit. As a kid, I grew up watching Champ Bailey and I just watched him and how he played. I just watched and paid attention to detail, so I feel like I am the technician of the game.”

On if there is a cornerback that he mimics his game after
“Champ Bailey. I’ve been watching him since I was a kid. I just like how he plays. I like his intensity on the field and I just like everything he does.”

On why he thinks Bill O’Brien and Rick Smith thought he would be a good fit for the Texans
“I guess coming in from a losing team and making it better. The Texans had a down year last year, but I know that they have the players that will make them a better team. We could win the Super Bowl, I feel like.”

On when he got the call
“I was in the hotel room with all of my family. I had just left the room to take a long walk before I got the call. I was just thinking to myself, ‘Man, I really just want to get drafted’, and when they called, my heart dropped and my family was screaming. This is a good day for me right now, I am so excited.”

On his name
“My name is Andre, but everyone else calls me Dre and my friends call me Dre. I don’t know how that got out. When I saw ‘Dre Hal’ on the TV, I was like ‘I didn’t’ know my name was Dre Hal. It was funny seeing that, but it’s cool. Whatever anyone wants to call me, it’s just whatever; I don’t care right now. I am excited and happy to be a Texan. I just can’t wait to get down there and start playing.”

On family being in Nashville with him
“Once I was done with graduation, they just stayed for the draft. Just watched all three days, so it has been a long weekend for me.”

On watching the draft
“I watched the whole thing today, so I have been waiting since 11 o’clock this morning. It is a blessing to get drafted and I am so thankful right now. Thankful to God, thankful for all my family and friends that had my back, thankful for all of the Vanderbilt fans that kept me in their prayers because this is what I really wanted. This is my dream, and I finally got it.”
