NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Season tickets for the six-game Vanderbilt football home schedule will go on sale to the general public starting Thursday morning.

Bobby Johnson's Commodores, coming off the team's best season in more than 25 years, will host Southeastern Conference opponents Georgia, Ole Miss, Kentucky and Mississippi State, along with non-conference foes Georgia Tech and Western Carolina, in Vanderbilt Stadium this fall.

The Commodores enter the upcoming season looking to reach a second straight postseason bowl for the first time in team history. Last year, Vanderbilt defeated No. 24 Boston College 16-14 in the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl in Nashville. The bowl was played in LP Field before a highly partisan Commodore crowd of nearly 54,250.

"I think everybody associated with Vanderbilt football is excited about the coming season, from the coaches and players to our fans that closely follow the team," Coach Johnson said. "I know the support means a tremendous amount to our team success.

"I look forward to seeing capacity crowds wearing black and gold in Vanderbilt Stadium. Last year, we enjoyed really great crowds, crowds that made a big difference for our team. Based on the fantastic way last season came to a close at the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl, I think we're developing the kind of team people across Middle Tennessee want to support," Johnson added.

Ticket orders for the Commodore home schedule, starting as low as $109 per seat, are available on the web at www.vucommodores.com, at the athletic box office in McGugin Center on campus at 2601 Jess Neely Drive on campus, or by phoning (615) 322-GOLD. Hours of operation at the ticket office at 8:30-4:30 p.m.

The Commodores open the season by hosting Western Carolina of the Southern Conference on Saturday, Sept. 4. Vanderbilt's first on-campus contest versus a Southeastern Conference team comes against Mississippi State on Sept. 19, 2009.

Later in the season, Vanderbilt hosts three games expected to boast preseason national rankings: Ole Miss on Oct. 3, Georgia on Oct. 17 and Georgia Tech on Oct. 31. The Commodores' final home game comes Nov. 14 against a Kentucky squad trying to capture a fourth consecutive bowl victory for the first time in school history.

Vanderbilt also enters 2009 with optimism based on the 2008 team success and the expected return of 19 starters, including nine on both offense and defense. The squad returns quarterbacks Mackenzi Adams and Larry Smith, the tailback Jared Hawkins, versatile Jamie Graham, the entire offensive and defensive lines, and several key defensive playmakers, including linebackers Patrick Benoist and Chris Marve, cornerback Myron Lewis and safety Ryan Hamilton.
