Burks headed to NFL Combine

Feb. 11, 2018

Burks' Profile on NFL.com

Former Commodore Oren Burks is set to compete at the NFL Combine beginning Feb. 27 in Indianapolis.

Burks finished off a stellar career at Vanderbilt last fall with a career-best 82 tackles after moving to inside linebacker. The Fairfax Station, Va. moved all over the field during his tenure with the Dores, beginning his career as a safety in his first two seasons before moving to a hybrid safety/linebacker position as a junior and finally settling into the middle of head coach Derek Mason's defense last season. He showcased that versatility last fall, recording an interception, pass break-up and fumble recovery.

As impressive as Burks' was on the football field, he's been equally impressive off the field having been involved in multiple campus and community events and organizations. He is a past president of Vanderbilt's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and co-founded and coordinated events for REVAMP (Revitalizing & Empowering Vanderbilt's African-American Male Population), a campus organization. He was a member of the 2016 Allstate Good Works team, a contender for the Wuerffel Award and a finalist for the Wooden Citizenship Cup in the same year. Last summer he was on the cover of the NCAA's Champion magazine and featured in a story heralding him for taking on societal issues as a student-athlete.

Burks' upcoming presence at the Combine will make it three straight years with at least one Commodore in Indianapolis to perform for NFL teams after Zach Cunningham and Will Holden participated last year and Stephen Weatherly in 2016.

The NFL Combine will be televised on NFL Network beginning Feb. 27.
