Despite having less than three weeks to attract high school seniors to Vanderbilt, Head Coach Derek Mason announced an impressive list of 22 prospects that form the program's latest signing class.
Mason praised the class, which was primarily developed since Jan. 17 when Mason was
announced as the 28th head coach in Vanderbilt history.
"We feel like this class is deep in talent, character and academic integrity," Mason said. "I think we identified what we needed in this class and that's exciting. We wanted to find guys that fit what we do.
"I think what tells the story is how (signees) fit into what you do. A huge part of this class speaks exactly to who we are, who we want to be, and where we're going. We also feel like we addressed some needs at certain positions," Mason added.
The class includes 11 players on defense, 10 on offense and a single snap specialist. Virtually all of Mason's signees were prep leaders, acting as captains for their respective teams. Fifteen of the prospects were named to All-State teams while six appeared in prestigious postseason All-American games. Four of the signees received four-star evaluations from national recruiting services while 19 of the 22 received at least a three-star recruiting evaluation.
Mason's recruiting effort attacked several depth concerns on the roster. The signing class includes six DB prospects, and three hopefuls at offensive line, defensive line and wide receiver.
