NASHVILLE - Vanderbilt All-Southeastern Conference wide receiver Jordan Matthews will return for his senior season.

"I've decided to forgo my opportunity to enter the NFL Draft and return for my senior year," Matthews said with a sly grin. "It was a no-brainer."

Matthews, a unanimous first team All-SEC selection in 2012 after putting together one of the finest seasons ever by a Commodore receiver, announced his intentions to stay at Vanderbilt for his final year of eligibility at a press conference on campus Sunday.

Matthews, a native of Madison, Ala., will return as a leading contender for the Biletnikoff Award, presented annually to the nation's top wide receiver. Matthews established a new Vanderbilt record with 1,323 receiving yards in 2012, and his 94-reception total was just four shy of breaking the team and SEC records set by former Commodore Keith Edwards in 1983.

"This is the biggest recruit that we're signing this year, getting this kid to come back," Franklin said.

Matthews also posted seven games of at least 100 receiving yards, setting another team record. Five of the 100+ performances came against SEC defenses.

Matthews topped the SEC and ranked among the nation's Top Ten in receptions and receiving yardage. He also caught eight touchdown passes, and averaged nearly 110 receiving yards against Vanderbilt's eight SEC opponents.

For his three-year career, Matthews has amassed 150 receptions, 2,282 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.

Matthews will enter his senior season within reach of important SEC career receiving records. He needs 812 receiving yards to break the SEC mark for career receiving yards held by Georgia's Terrence Edwards and will need 87 catches to break the league's all-time standard for receptions held by former Commodore standout Earl Bennett.
