2013 SEC Academic Honor Roll
Marshall enjoyed another banner year as defensive co-captain and second-year starter in Commodore secondary... Formed potent safety duo with fellow senior and returning starter Kenny Ladler... Started all 13 games, finishing second on the team with 49 solo tackles and third with 80 total tackles... Also contributed career-high 5.5 tackles for loss, a quarterback sack, an interception and fumble recovery... Remarkably consistent, posting three or more tackles in 12 of 13 games... Had seven or more tackles against eight opponents... Averaged 7.1 tackles in SEC competition... Opened the year with nine solo tackles vs. Ole Miss... Had pair of tackles for loss in wins over UAB and Kentucky... Contributed seven solo stops, eight total tackles and a QB sack in win at Florida... Interception came in victory over nationally ranked Georgia... Contributed three tackles in BBVA Compass Bowl victory over Houston.
Marshall put together his finest season as a Commodore... A defensive co-captain, he has started all 12 games this year at safety... Ranks as the team's leader with 58 solo tackles and shares the lead with 80 total tackles... Has also contributed two tackles for loss and a forced fumble... Quarterback of the secondary, Marshall has established new highs in virtually every stat category... Was superb in Vanderbilt's thrilling 27-26 victory at Ole Miss, setting single-game career highs with eight solo tackles and 11 total tackles... Posted at least four tackles in every game... Opened season with 10-tackle effort vs. South Carolina... Fumble recovery came at Northwestern... Contributed seven solo stops in team's victory at Missouri... Added three tackles in victory over North Carolina State in Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl.
Marshall brought stability and powerful hitting style as a first-year safety in the Commodore secondary... Developed into a co-starter at free safety, sharing role with returning starter Kenny Ladler... Played through injuries to see action in all 13 games... Earned eight starting assignments... Finished year as team's seventh leading tackler with 42 total stops... Set season career highs in every statistical category, including 32 solo tackles, two interceptions and four defensed passes... Contributed single-game high of six tackles against Georgia and Tennessee... Interceptions helped spark early-season wins over Connecticut and Ole Miss... Posted at least four tackles in eight games... One of four Commodores with multiple interceptions this year... Broke up four passes, tied for third most on the squad.
Marshall saw action in eight games as reserve defensive back and special teams contributor... Missed first four games of year with leg injury...Concluded season with four total tackles... Contributed two key plays against Florida, forcing a Gator fumble, then recovered a blocked Florida punt in the end zone for a touchdown.
Contributed as scout team defensive back while redshirting during first year on campus... Showed excellent speed and solid potential as nickel back on the practice field.
Voted as postseason senior captain by teammates... Two-year starter at defensive back for large Dayton-area school... As senior, earned All-Southwest Ohio Conference and Greater Miami Valley Area honors after contributing 128 tackles and three forced fumbles for 8-4 Warrior squad that advanced to second round of Division 1 state playoffs... Helped Warriors beat nationally ranked East St. Louis HS early in season... Contributed 49 tackles and three interceptions as junior... Also sprints on track team, with best of 10.8 (100 meters)... Also ran leg on 4x100-meter relay that finished sixth at state meet.
