Charles Huff joins the Vanderbilt program as an offensive quality control assistant after serving at Hampton (Va.) University during the 2010 season.
Huff, a former staff member at Tennessee State University in Nashville, served as the offensive line coach and running game coordinator at Hampton last year.
The ties between Huff and Vanderbilt Head Coach James Franklin extend to the University of Maryland football program where Huff served as a staff intern in 2009.
Huff worked at Tennessee State from 2006-08 in a variety of capacities. In his final two years at TSU, Huff served as the tight ends coach and special teams coordinator in addition to assisting with the offensive line and team operations. He mentored TSU centers and guards on the offensive line in 2006, sending two offensive linemen to the National Football League as free agents, Cecil Newton and Cornelius Lewis.
At TSU, Huff also coached eventual first-round draft pick Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie as a kick returner in 2007.
Prior to going to Tennessee State, Huff was a graduate assistant at Hampton. Huff was a part of the Pirates when they went undefeated in 2005, and played for three Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference (MEAC) champion teams. Toward the end of his playing career, Huff was an offensive guard, fullback and tight end.
