Birchmeier's participation as a redshirt freshman increased as the season endured... Participated on the interior defensive line in six games after missing the first five weeks of action due to injury... Contributed tackles in league play against South Carolina and Tennessee... Earned first collegiate start at South Carolina.

2016

Birchmeier did not see action as a first-year defensive lineman, but impressed coaches and teammates with his physicality and attitude as a solid defensive scout contributor... Birchmeier also was a standout in the weight room.
